Book the first entry slot and walk into the arena while the light is still low. The underground hypogeum tour is worth the upgrade — it's where the lifts and lions waited.

Same ticket, same morning: walk the Via Sacra past the Senate house, then climb the Palatine for the view over the whole forum — emperors picked this hill for a reason.
